MyGSI (GoGrid Server Image)
MyGSI is an easy and semi-automated process for creating, editing, saving, and deploying a GoGrid Server Image (GSI). A GSI is a Golden Image and contains your pre-configured and customized applications, as well as the server operating system. A GSI is stored in GoGrid's Cloud Storage for $0.15 -- $3.00/month (FREE if you are under your 10 GB free allotment).
A GSI can be used for new server deployments, drastically reducing the work and time it takes to get servers online, or for rapid horizontal and vertical server scaling.
- Horizontal server scaling—use a GSI to rapidly deploy new servers to meet sudden spikes in demand. Delete the servers when demand drops, paying only for the resources used.
- Vertical server scaling—scale RAM by deploying a GSI to a new server with a higher RAM allotment and then deleting the old server with insufficient RAM.
- Server Parking—bundle and park a server in GoGrid's Cloud Storage for only $0.15 -- $3.00/month. This is ideal for users that don't want to pay for an entire month of service for a server used only a few days per month.
Creating and Saving GoGrid Server Images:
1 Add an Image Sandbox Server
An Image Sandbox server has 2 GB RAM and 20 GB storage. A GSI can only be created using an Image Sandbox server.
2 Choose and Deploy a Base Operating System
Your Image Sandbox server will need an operating system. Choose any of the following operating systems:
- Windows 2003 and 2008
- Linux: RHEL and CentOS
- Existing GoGrid Server Image
3 Customize your Image Sandbox Server
Remotely access your Image Sandbox server using RDC or SSH and configure it to your exact specifications.
4 Bundle the Server by Running a Prep Script
GoGrid provides Preparation Scripts that get your server ready for the bundling process.
5 Save your Server Image
After running the Preparation Script, save the server in GoGrid's Cloud Storage. Use your GSI to deploy new server via the GoGrid portal or API.
