RAM Usage

Cloud Servers are billed based on usage. At GoGrid, we calculate this usage based on the RAM Hour billing unit. A server RAM Hour is the amount of RAM allocated to a server multiplied by the number of hours the server has been deployed.

Example A.
One 2 GB server deployed for 1 hour = 2 server RAM Hours

Example B.
Three 1 GB servers deployed for 2 hours each = 6 server RAM Hours

Customers have two options for paying for RAM Hours. They can select "Pay-As-You-Go" pricing, which lets them start deploying servers for as little as $.06 per hour. Or they can select a pre-paid plan where in return for their commitment, they receive substantial savings when compared to Pay-As-You-Go pricing.

Pay-As-You-Go

Pay-As-You-Go is the most flexible option available, allowing customers to deploy GoGrid on-demand virtual servers for as little as $.06 per hour. This is the ideal option for customers that want an inexpensive, elastic, reliable, on-demand virtual server with absolutely no commitment or up-front charges. Customers pay for resources by the hour and can increase or decrease the number of servers to meet their needs. Pay-As-You-Go is recommended for:

  • Customers running applications with short-term or unpredictable workloads
  • Customers running applications that are in the process of being developed and tested
  • Customers running short-term proof of concept or project-based workloads where speed to market, flexibility, and zero commitment are desirable

Hourly RAM Plans

RAM plans are designed to let customers save when compared to hourly Pay-As-You-Go usage charges. Customers pre-pay for an allotment of RAM Hours each month and spin up resources as needed. We calculate a RAM Hour as 1 GB of RAM deployed on the GoGrid system for 1 hour. For example, if you have a .5 GB server deployed for 3 hours, you will have accrued 1.5 RAM Hours of usage. RAM plans represent a way for customers to save significantly for minimal commitment and are recommended for:

  • Customers running applications with more predictable usage
  • Customers that wish to save on known usage charges
  • Web applications and/or steady-state applications

GoGrid offers RAM plans to fit the needs of various customer types, from small businesses all the way up to global enterprises. Starting and Stopping Hourly Usage Charges

Customers accrue usage charges by the hour for each virtual machine they create. To stop all charges, you must delete all virtual servers in the account. For example, if you create a 1 GB server using GoGrid and 1 hour later delete the server, you will be billed for 1 hour of usage. Usage consists of accumulated RAM, transfer, and storage charges.
