Small businesses explain their motives for the cloud

Category:

Most small businesses use cloud computing are utilizing the service for its simplification of collaborative tasks, according to a survey from SmallBiz Technology. This is because with the cloud, organizations don't have to manually renew software or worry about certain employees not remaining up-to-date with software, as the cloud automatically installs these updates.

Additionally, 43 percent of responding businesses claimed that they moved to the cloud to cut expenses, save time or to store data securely, according to the study. The cloud is easy to install and use, and can reduce costs because it allows businesses to pay only for what they use.

Meanwhile, the study found an additional 14 percent of respondents used the cloud to save energy. Since the cloud's servers are stored off-site, this helps companies reduce their overall IT expenses and cut down on energy usage.

According to Renub Research, organizations are also expecting to use the cloud for their infrastructure, considering that the Infrastructure-as-a-Service market is anticipated to grow at a compound annual rate of more than 52 percent from 2010 to 2013.
