Study: Connectivity, accelerated business operations top reasons for cloud deployment
In a recent global survey of more than 3,600 IT decision makers, the most common reason for deploying cloud computing technologies in the workplace was the ability to connect workers through a variety of platforms. The CSC study found that one-third of all respondents cited this as the most important factor for deploying the cloud.
The other top justifications for implementing cloud technologies were to increase the speed of business operations and to cut costs, as 21 percent and 17 percent of businesses claimed these reasons, respectively. While the money saved in the cloud may not be as substantial as some organizations expected, more than 80 percent of respondents said they saved at least some money on their last cloud project, the study revealed.
Overall, 80 percent of responding companies experienced improvements within the first six months of their cloud adoption, according to the survey, indicating that the technology can aid most businesses.
According to a study by Cloud.com, roughly 81 percent of respondents already had the cloud deployed or are currently in the development stages of doing so. This suggests that the market for the cloud has not yet peaked and will likely continue to grow in the future, especially if organizations keep experiencing benefits.
