Cloud vital to today's multi-platform business, study finds
More companies today are realizing the pervasiveness of cloud computing technologies. As a result, they believe that cloud strategies are fundamental in the current multi-modal and social business world, according to a report by ABI Research.
"Mobility is emerging as a key functionality across all platform offerings," said Dan Shey, ABI Research's practice director for mobile services. "Vendors realize the cloud is a powerful facilitator for application mobilization and federation across multiple devices compared to premises-based solutions."
As a result of these growing mobility and multi-platform trends, the global enterprise social collaboration market is expected to grow from its 2010 revenue of nearly $900 million to roughly $3.5 billion by 2016, the report said. Between 2011 and 2016, the market for these solutions is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of more than 52 percent.
These technologies will contribute substantially to the overall cloud industry, which, according to MarketsandMarkets, is anticipated to have exceeded $121 billion in revenue by the same time. These estimations indicate that companies are likely expanding their enterprise to become more mobile and connected with customers, utilizing the cloud to take them there.
