Study: Highest cloud adoption rates in UK belong to medium-sized businesses
While organizations of all sizes can experience benefits from deploying cloud computing technologies, medium-sized businesses in the U.K. are the ones that appear to be utilizing the cloud most often. According to a study by Clarenet, 60 percent of medium-sized companies have deployed cloud computing, while only 44 percent and 48 percent of small and large firms, respectively, have done so.
In total, 55 percent of survey respondents said they are currently using cloud computing. Private or hybrid cloud models are the most popular forms, with 79 percent of cloud-enabled companies saying they are utilizing these types, compared to 15 percent using public environments, the study found.
"There is a strong preference for either hybrid of private cloud models in the majority of infrastructure of applications areas," said Michel Robert of Claranet UK. "This is primarily because IT decision-makers view these models as lower-risk than other forms of cloud services and means that they can keep greater control over their applications and data."
Another important benefit of a private cloud computing environment is agility, according to a TechTarget report. This is because private models often leverage more complex technologies easier at a lower cost than traditional systems.
