Considerations when moving to cloud environments

In order for companies to experience the full benefits of a cloud infrastructure service, decision-makers need to complete IT migrations with the right mindset. Chief information officers should view cloud servers as strategic enablers, rather than simple outsourcing solutions, according to a Help Net Security report.

"Cloud computing presents a unique opportunity for enterprises - and is particularly a game-changer for small and [medium-sized businesses] because its availability means that technology infrastructure is not the market differentiator it has been in the past," industry expert Ramsés Gallego said, according to the news source.

When migrating to the cloud, decision-makers should be sure to evaluate and balance the cost of cloud servers with the prices of other technology platforms that may bring similar advantages. Additionally, CIOs need to be sure they tackle security and make risk management a part of the cloud adoption process, Help Net Security noted.

Decision-makers must also decide on the right cloud environment for their business, whether that's a public, private or hybrid cloud, according a SYS-CON Media report. Each cloud computing model has its own advantages and restrictions, making the choice of environment an extremely important aspect of the migration process.
