Study: Different cloud benefits boost adoption
In a survey of more than 500 business and technology leaders around the world, IBM found that the number of companies utilizing cloud hosting services to revamp IT is expected to double by 2015. Currently, 16 percent of respondents said they are currently using the cloud to enhance innovation, while 35 percent intend to use the technology in the next three years.
"Companies are starting to understand - cloud isn't just about gaining efficiencies and cost savings," IBM global strategy consulting leader Saul Berman said. "It's about driving the kind of fundamental innovation that provides lasting marketplace advantage."
According to the study, nearly two-thirds of respondents said the cloud's ability to improve collaboration with outside partners is one of the technology's key advantages. Additionally, 57 percent of participants said cost savings and 56 percent cited the ability to open up new new markets as the reason their company would implement the cloud.
Improvements in storage and disaster recovery capabilities were also ranked as some of the top factors influencing companies to migrate to managed servers in a recent Aryaka survey. While the justifications for the cloud vary across the board, there is no doubt that more businesses are implementing the technology with greater enthusiasm in recent months.
