Virtualization-essential apps vital for cloud success
Businesses today are virtualizing workloads to consolidate infrastructure and improve efficiency, while ensuring services are highly available. Unfortunately, many decision-makers neglect to virtualize mission-critical solutions that could benefit the most from the transition. Instead, many organizations virtualize around half of their environments before changing important applications, according to a CIO report.
Virtualizing mission-critical applications is essential to successful private cloud hosting deployments, CIO noted.
"To deliver the most value, the private cloud must encompass the majority of workloads already in use and reduce the number of fragmented resource silos that lie outside the cloud," IDC research manager Gary Chen said, according to CIO. "This allows organizations to take advantage of the economies of scale for optimal infrastructure efficiency."
If businesses wish to remain relevant in the future, decision-makers will need to utilize server virtualization, which will present Infrastructure as a Service, enabling companies to improve efficiency and scalability, the news source said.
According In-Stat, the IaaS market will generate more than $4 billion in revenue by 2015, largely driven by the need to access mission-critical applications via any device and location.
