Survey: Two-thirds of companies considering cloud backup services

A new survey conducted by independent research firm TechValidate found that many enterprises plan to update their backup systems within the next 18 months. Many organizations are likely to leverage the cloud for backup as information volumes expand and the need to protect sensitive data remains.

"Enterprises across all industries are recognizing the value of cloud backup and recovery," cloud backup expert Eran Farajun said. "As companies have to manage and protect increasingly large amounts of data, the need to recover data quickly after any data loss event is a major motivator to switch to the cloud."

The survey found that 66 percent of respondents are considering using cloud hosting services for backup purposes, yet many are still concerned about the protection of sensitive information. TechValidate found that nearly one-quarter of respondents are worried how well the cloud can safeguard data.

A separate study by CA Technologies, however, found that many companies are beginning to believe in the cloud's ability to keep mission-critical applications and information safe. The survey revealed that 76 percent of U.S. businesses are using private cloud servers to store data, with 84 percent of decision-makers having confidence in the technology's security capabilities.
