Study: Companies satisfied with SaaS application reliability
Applications are the key to business survival in today's digital landscape. The use of such solutions, however, is no easy task, as roughly 49 percent of companies said changing, optimizing and upgrading enterprise apps remains a significantly challenging problem, according to InformationWeek Report's 2012 Enterprise Applications survey.
The study revealed that many decision-makers are considering using cloud computing to ease their troubles, while others prefer premise-based applications.
Although security is still a significant inhibitor of the cloud, InformationWeek Reports found that organizations using the technology are more satisfied with their service than those not using the cloud. The survey noted that 55 percent of Software as a Service users are happy with the reliability of their applications, compared to a 40 percent satisfaction rate among non-SaaS firms.
"IT professionals need to weigh both the benefits and challenges of using on-premises versus SaaS-based enterprise applications," said Lorna Garey, content director of InformationWeek Reports. "It's significant to note that even though only 38 percent of survey respondents are using SaaS, they report higher overall satisfaction than those using on-premises applications."
The study also found that 66 percent of survey respondents said the No.1 quality IT professionals look for in an app vendor is their ability to integrate next-generation solutions with existing systems. For this reason, many enterprises are turning to a cloud infrastructure in an effort to enhance collaboration.
"After more than a decade of use, adoption of SaaS continues to grow and evolve regionally within the enterprise application markets," Sharon Mertz, research director at Gartner, said in a separate report by her research firm.
Gartner forecast the global SaaS revenue to reach $14.5 billion in 2012, up from $12.3 billion in 2011. As more organizations look to leverage next-generation applications, the maturing cloud is becoming a more logical option.
