Development & Test

Leverage the GoGrid cloud to reduce costs and speed access to dev & test resources.

Whether you’re developing software applications or testing infrastructure setup, having the tools to easily set up, automate, and manage the deployment of development & test environments is critical to your organization’s ability to compete in the marketplace. Traditional approaches require setting up massive amounts of hardware for each stage of development—from initial design, to development, to QA, to stage—all the way through to production. The costs are high, and many times the life cycles are long. With GoGrid, businesses are able to cut their costs in half while speeding up their development life cycle and allowing for more thorough testing.

Features & Benefits

  • Speed up deployments
Speed up infrastructure deployment times from hours and days to just a few minutes.
  • Increase access to resources
With point-and-click provisioning, you have access to resources the instant you need them. There’s no need to be on-site for deployment—you can do everything through the web with a few mouse clicks.
  • Use rapid versioning
Spend less time setting up tests by pre-configuring master images with testing toolsets for QA.
  • Save time
Reduce QA time by as much as 50% and leverage cloud storage resources to save multiple copies or iterations of work.

Sample Configuration

In this example, a customer is using the GoGrid network to host a development, staging, or sandbox environment while using a GoGrid custom dedicated network for production with F5 hardware load balancing and an optional custom Internet Security package. Infinitely scalable Cloud Storage is available for every GoGrid account, with the first 10 GB free.

Components

GoGrid customers benefit by creating a virtualized development & test environment. Because GoGrid Cloud Servers can be deployed in just a few minutes, dev & test teams no longer have to wait days or even weeks for resources to become available. Instead, they simply provision the resources they need, on-demand. You pay by the hour, so if testing takes a few days, you only pay for a few days’ of usage. When testing is complete, you simply de-provision the resources and billing stops. This deployment model is a substantial shift from the old days of purchasing equipment and then letting resources sit idle until needed. Customers moving their dev & test environments to the cloud see vastly more efficient use of infrastructure and capital expenditures.

  • Personal Server Images (MyGSIs)
MyGSI is an easy-to-use, point-and-click service that lets you save a copy of a server you’ve customized to create a personalized GoGrid Server Image (GSI). We call this personalized image a MyGSI. Each MyGSI acts like a “golden Image” and contains your pre-configured and customized applications as well as the server operating system. You can store a MyGSI in GoGrid’s Cloud Storage and then retrieve the image to deploy any number of Cloud Servers.
  • Role-Based Access Control
You control both who has access to your GoGrid account and how much access each person has. Plus, you can separate users into various roles such as billing users, system users, and read-only users.
  • Open API
GoGrid’s REST-like API interface is designed for individuals who want to programmatically control their cloud hosting infrastructure over the Internet. You can leverage the API to batch-deploy hundreds of servers at a time for auto-scaling of Cloud Servers, listing assigned public and private IP addresses, deleting Cloud Servers that aren’t being used, and even listing usage details.
  • Cloud Servers
Take advantage of scalable, high-performance Cloud Servers and gain all the efficiencies of server virtualization. Server virtualization lets you reduce your capital expenses and improve operational efficiency through automation and on-demand self-service provisioning. Read more about GoGrid Cloud Servers here.
  • Dedicated Servers
GoGrid Dedicated Servers are powerful, single-tenant physical servers that are available in the same VLAN as GoGrid Cloud Servers, load balancers, and Cloud Storage. You manage Dedicated Servers directly through GoGrid’s web-based management console, so you can easily combine the elasticity of cloud computing with single-tenant physical servers. Read more about our Dedicated Server options here.
  • Load Balancers
Fully integrated, redundant load balancers ensure you’re ready when traffic peaks. GoGrid’s load balancing automatically distributes workloads across resources, clusters, and between data centers. Read more about GoGrid Load Balancers here.
  • Firewalls
Whether it’s highly available virtual firewalls or specific hardware firewalls, you can choose the solution that’s best for you. With GoGrid’s firewall services, you have everything you need to secure your environment. Read more about GoGrid firewall services here.
  • Cloud Storage
GoGrid Cloud Storage is a scalable and reliable file-level backup service for Windows and Linux Cloud Servers. You can use it to back up your important files, store media, or to back up system resources. Read more about GoGrid Cloud Storage here.

Comparison

With GoGrid, you can deploy an elastic architecture that provides complete control over your resources. As demand increases due to time of day, season, or other events, you can easily scale your resources up or down to meet demand.

Traditional Hosting vs. High-Availability Cloud Infrastructure

Traditional Hosting High-Availability Cloud Infrastructure
Traditional infrastructure is inflexible Cloud infrastructure is flexible
With traditional hardware, you must buy based on your peak traffic periods, incur up-front capital expenditures, and maintain your investment over time. Provisioning traditional infrastructure can take weeks to months, and because your business is dynamic, predicting the necessary amount of infrastructure can be difficult. Most important, trying to hit the sweet spot without overspending or under-provisioning is risky. By deploying infrastructure in the GoGrid cloud, you can reduce the time required from months to minutes. With this approach, you not only eliminate the up-front fixed investment, but you only pay for the resources actually used. This approach gives you more control over your IT resources and lets you meet peak loads with on-demand scalability.
